Executive Coaching and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in Marketing

Continuous Professional Development in the marketing indisutry is critical to keeping up with the trends in the marketing discipline and ensuring the indivudals are keeping a breast of best practice. Within the Marketing industry there are two institues who champion the professional standards and both allow for executive coaching & mentoring to contribute towards their members CPD credits.

Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) CPD

The Chartered Institute of Marketing allows for mentoring within its allocation of Continuous Professional Development credits, allowing for a maximum of 21 hours of mentoring to be used against the annual requirement of 35 hours.

The definition of mentoring is “Mentoring others or being mentored to allow for the effective dissemination of knowledge.”
To achieve 21 hours of mentoring, it could look like 1 and three quarter hours mentoring every month.
To achieve the CPD credits, a letter  from the mentor stipulating the name of the mentoree and time spent being mentored is required.

Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM) CPD

The Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM) allows for a maximum of 20 hours of coaching and mentoring out of the total 35 hours of personal development the IDM requires as a minimum every year. The coaching is to be part of a structured development plan. The IDM see coaching as challenging, advising and motivating individuals in attain personal and professional goals. The summarise the benefits as enhancing personal productivity and performance.

The IDM do not require evidence of coaching to gain CPD credits.
